16-1546 Living Coral - Color of the Year by PANTONE

It is said to be a color that encourages people to become more social and that is one of the main reasons PANTONE chose it as the color to represent 2019. The aim was to react to the ultra-digital era we are living at the moment, where people spend more time trying to look social on the media than actually socializing.

The growth of social media led to the creation of a lifestyle where you need to be online 24/7, independently if you are sharing your most honest self, or pretending to be something else. We are becoming more and more robots as days pass by, generating the need to distance people from that, to create authentic experiences that enable connection and intimacy – humanity is actually aching for humans.

And what a better way to start a revolution than through something than can be projected everywhere, color.

“Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities and this is particularly true for Living Coral. With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord.” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute

Living Coral

A shade of pink with a bit of orange in the mix, Living Coral appears as an analogous for optimism, change and playful expressions. PANTONE actually describes the vibrant color choice as a chance to “provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment”.

Mellow, warm and energizing it is definitely a brave choice for this year, giving the latest events around the world.  We should face it as a representation of the immense possibilities that we have offline giving its supposed power to makes us go outside.

"I see coral as the color of compassion and higher awareness. Coral encourages us to think outside of the box, to look beyond our own personal experiences for a greater sense of perspective. Possessing a blend of orange, red and pink, coral evokes a kind of emotional revitalization within us. Coral has a soft resonance that is an easy energy for people to absorb and feel connected to. This is a friendly, emotionally intelligent color. When we surround ourselves with coral, people often feel a stronger desire for community, connection and understanding." – Dougall Fraser, Psychic, Cosmic Coach and Author of Your Life is Color: Empowering Your Soul with the Energy of Color
